INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY
Lightning Safety Policy
The Tournament Director, or his/her designee, shall be the individual responsible for weather observation and evacuation plan implementation. If thunder is heard OR the school's weather alert alarm sounds, play will be suspended. In this situation, the following shall occur:
1. Everyone is to leave the site immediately and seek safe shelter in any fully enclosed building involving plumbing and/or electrical wiring that acts to electrically ground the structure. Personal items and athletic equipment should be left on the field and retrieved once conditions are deemed safe. If such a shelter cannot be found, take shelter in any vehicle with a hard metal roof and closed windows.
2. While indoors, stay away from any of the walls, windows, plumbing and electronic devices attached to the walls (including landline telephones). If in a vehicle, avoid contact with the metal frame and avoid radio use.
3. No outdoor activities are to be resumed until 30 minutes after the last sign of lightning/thunder. For every sign observed or alert sounded, the 30 minute timer is reset.
6. The Lightning Safety Statement, and any updates on the weather condition, shall be texted by the Tournament Director to the Head Coaches, who, in turn, notify their student-athletes and coaches during the inclement weather delay.
